Newark Education and Training Fund
The NWDB created a pilot program called the Newark Education and Training Fund with a $200,000 sponsorship from L&M Developers. Participants received stipends while either attending Essex County College to attain their High School Equivalency diploma or a vocational training program ensuring that individuals focused on their training while earning a credential that would make them more appealing to potential employers.
The Art of Code
In partnership with the City of Newark’s Office of Information Technology, CodeCrew, and the New Jersey Institute of Technology, the NWDB piloted the Art (of) Code, a 12 week training program that equipped participants with training in front end web development and job readiness.
The NJ Build training program is designed to provide Newark residents, via the Newark One-Stop Career Center system, with the necessary skills to qualify for a certified apprenticeship program or access to permanent employment opportunities. This pre-apprenticeship training will partner with Honeywell International and Essex County College to connect Newark’s hard-to-serve population into apprenticeships to support the building upgrade work of the City of Newark’s Energy Savings Service Contract with Honeywell International. The program will allow participants to become more skillfully trained, adequately educated and gainfully employed with careers and incomes sufficient to encourage independence and self-sufficiency.
